Five people have died after a tourist plane and an microlight collided in western France.

The small microlight with two people collided on Saturday around 4:30 p.m. local time (14:30 GMT) in Loches in the department of Indre-et-Loire with a DA40 tourist plane with three people on board, local government official Nadia Seghier told AFP news agency .

“(The microlight) landed on the fence around a house without harming anyone else (the DA40) several hundred meters away in an uninhabited area,” Seghier said. “All five people involved died.”

Around 50 firefighters were called in, while 30 gendarmes built detours around the crash sites.

“First, flight emergency personnel from Lyon were called in to find the aircraft, which was quickly found,” said the prefecture.

No details have yet been released about the identity of the victims or the causes of the collision.

The Loches Police Department has taken over the investigation into the crash.
