Energy Couple Harry and Michelle Dunn Empowering Youth in Indianapolis

Harry and Michelle Dunn are best described as dedicated, persistent, caring, community-minded, and inclusive. The couple have lived their lives as civil servants for over two decades because they felt a deep calling to reach back and help an injured generation. And that’s exactly why you have sacrificed as much as you need to open Him through your foundation.

BLACK COMPANY spoke to the powerhouse couple about the process of opening a downtown school and what people can expect from them in the future.

Tell us about your foundation.

Harry: After more than four years of intense research, collaboration, planning, and tenacious determination, my wife and I felt blessed to have the HIM By HER Foundation Inc. (HBHF) programs up and running. We both share a passion for educating the youth and the marginalized and providing opportunities to improve people’s chances of success in the community. We believe that when you narrow down a person’s excuses and give them an opportunity, you are helping to improve their chances of success in life.

Why did you choose to start your school in downtown Indianapolis?

Harry: Both myself and my wife, Michelle, were born and raised on the outskirts of Indianapolis. This is our foundation. Our bricks were laid here. We see ourselves in these young men and young women. We want the young people to know that there are more opportunities out here for them. They are more than what is presented to them.

Michelle: I want people to know that I’m no better than them. That I’m no different from her. I want this generation to see itself in me. I want them to know that with hard work and dedication, success would be inevitable. Although you can fall 1000 times, the point is to get up again. Get up and fight another day!

How are you going to end 2020 strong?

Michelle: We will get more involved in the community. We are well on the way to feeding several thousand people before the end of the year. We’ll be handing out thousands of toys this Christmas.

What can people expect from you in 2021?

Harry: On the one hand, the all-round services are brought to life here at school. The nursing school, anger management boxing services with a mental health component, family and youth counseling, HIV and STD tests, free dental and lead tests, and much more.

What is your motto?

Michelle: God. Family. business

What advice do you give to someone who lets an obstacle hold them back?

Michelle: I had a little mustard seed in my wallet. This seed represents faith. It told me that every time I encounter an obstacle, I have to depend on God. My faith is so much stronger than any obstacle before me. Faith can really move any mountain!
