Hong Kong’s pro-democracy media tycoon Jimmy Lai was sent back to jail Thursday after the city’s Supreme Court complied with prosecutors’ demands that his bail be denied.

Lai, a vocal critic from Beijing, is one of the most prominent figures on trial under a comprehensive security law that China imposed on the financial center in late June to stamp out dissent.
