How Michael Strahan Grew to become One in every of America’s Most Multifaceted Entrepreneurs

He is an NFL Hall of Famer and a Super Bowl Champion, but dismissing Michael Strahan as “just” a football player would be a grave mistake.

Since retiring from professional sports in 2007, Strahan has grown into one of America’s most diverse entrepreneurial figures: author, designer, award-winning television personality and co-founder of the talent management agency SMAC Entertainment. And here’s the crazy part: none of this was planned in advance. After his football career, Strahan, like many successful entrepreneurs, was in the right place at the right time – with a few more doors, of course – and had the preparation and skills to seize every opportunity.

On Friday, October 23rd, Strahan will attend the 2020 Inc. 5000 Vision Conference, a weeklong virtual event that celebrates and brings together entrepreneurs of all kinds who break down the nuts and bolts of his post-athletic career. You will learn how Strahan selects a co-founder, manages employees and focuses on consumer-friendly business areas in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

For example: At SMAC, employees do not have strict job titles. Strahan and co-founder Constance Schwartz-Morini view the practice as limiting as it promotes the idea that employees have no skills outside of their written job descriptions. Rather, the couple trusts that their employees understand what is required for a given project and find a way to achieve it. The element of trust is an issue that is particularly common in Strahan’s career, from the bonds he built with his teammates on the grate to the relationships he now forges in the office.

Indeed, a high level of trust is essential to building a high performing team in any context. “I’ve been on great teams with great players but with the wrong attitudes and I’ve been on teams where the players weren’t that great but the attitudes and engagement were better than anything you’ve ever seen,” he said tells Inc., “And that was a team that we won the Super Bowl with.”
