Meet Google Enterprise’s Youngest And First Black Feminine Accomplice

It was a big deal when Terri Burns started working for GV, then known as Google Ventures, as a principal on the investment team, and now she’s the company’s youngest and first black partner.

“Part of me says, ‘It’s really great that we’re moving into a room where different types of people – young people, people of color – get a seat at the table and have a lot of options. But with those opportunities, she says, also comes “a little bit of weight where you want to make sure you pave the way for others,” she tells CNBC Make It.

“This is an exciting moment that I am grateful for and looking forward to, but I also feel that there is still a lot to be done and that is something I love and take very seriously.”

After graduating from New York University with a degree in computer science, Burns set out to make it to Silicon Valley. She began her career on Twitter as an Associate Product Manager. At that point, she contacted a partner in the company who provided more insight into building a career in technology.

“When I started my career as a computer scientist and product manager, I was very focused: there was always a project, a role and a team that I focused on,” she says on the GV website. “Today, as a VC, I have a unique opportunity to really understand the larger business and technology market. As a person with many different interests, it’s the perfect balance for me. “

Burns hit social media to celebrate the big news and achievements and to post a cake honoring her success on Instagram.
