Meet The Lady Bringing African Designers To The Forefront

When it comes to luxury, it is common for many people to search for leading brands in countries like France or Italy that are setting trends across the industry. Since the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement earlier this year, many in the fashion industry have come forward to point out the discrimination they have faced as black professionals working in the sector. One woman decided to use her fashion skills and come up with a new concept that puts African designers at the center of the fashion world.

Amira Rasool is the founder and CEO of The Folklore, an innovative concept that incorporates elements of a fashion showroom and an online shop to showcase luxury and emerging brands from different African countries. For Rasool, the idea arose out of a desire to help these brands thrive in an industry that often ignores them in favor of European and American brands.

I think it was important because this Brands to have been devalued and underfunded and rough represents, Not due to the defect from Talent, but by the defect from access and then purely straight racism how good, ”Rasool said in an interview with BLACK COMPANY.

“When I talk to People about for sure Situations and when I introduced nThis one opportunities to this Brands, to like Companies in the the west The would have previously ignored You, I am very to open about letting you knows The the reason Why this Brands are not in the this head Retailers Law now is purely because from racism and Idleness.”

With many in the industry coming together to raise the black voices in fashion, Rasool said their concept was not just about selling clothes, but protecting the integrity of African designers from being used by larger companies.

I Really wanted to to do for sure The we emphasize their Worth, ”said Rasool. “You are will put something respect on this brand Names. Y.You are Not will straight use their pictures and Be able to to benefit out from you because everyone loves all from the pictures Come out from theThe you use it to to get Clicks to Your website and then to get money from Show and then Not Really maintenance about the Brands The you are actually make money with. I wanted to make sure these brands had an opportunity to make money. We just have to take care of it [African designers] are able to capitalize on what they have [created] and their talent.
