As the confirmation hearings for Judge Amy Coney Barrett progresses this week, the increasingly excited co-hosts of MSNBC’s Morning Joe have decided to distract themselves with something they know better about: COVID-19 gossip. We have ignored the historic events taking place on Capitol Hill this week Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski ridiculed Republicans as “clowns” who are part of a “macho death cult”.
Despite having entertained themselves this way for weeks, the MSNBC stars are now so desperate to avoid the actual news that they are ready to discuss conspiracy theories.
The co-hosts played a clip of White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows walking down a fairly spacious hallway in the Capitol on Monday, where he stopped to speak to reporters, including CNN’s Kristin Wilson. After Meadows pulled back from Wilson to ensure social distancing guidelines were followed, he removed his mask to answer her questions and / or comments. She screamed disapprovingly, however, and asked Meadows to say, “Well, I’m more than ten feet away. I’m not – well, I’m not going to speak through a mask. “
At the end of the clip, Brzezinski rushed to share her feelings first:
Okay, here’s the problem. He refuses to speak through a mask, and people reporting this story already know that several White House correspondents infected the coronavirus and that others are in quarantine for being exposed. They are just trying to do their job safely, and this clown plays masked games when I may. Am I correct, on top of the fact that we had Mike Lee in the hearing diagnosed positive for coronavirus? To sit in the hearing without a mask.
Brzezinski was referring to Utah Senator Mike Lee, who tested positive for COVID-19 on October 1 but was present at the Barrett confirmatory hearings on Monday. However, Lee was deleted by a Doctor to end isolation according to current CDC guidelines. Brzezinski either ignored this fact or was unaware of it. Anyway, Scarborough agreed with her, but with no mask on his face, he suggested it could be something more sinister:
