The joy of Donald Trump’s COVID illness could be seen on Wednesday night as MSNBC prepared for the vice presidential debate. Co-host Rachel Maddow mocked Donald Trump’s “Proof of Life” video, mocking, “Is that the president or is the drug talking?”
Maddow said, which could be the biggest understatement, “I’m not someone who always necessarily understands the calling of the president. I’ll get into that in a moment. “She scoffed,” There are a number of things that were just disturbingly troubling about this video of the President, including how he looked. That’s not the most important thing, unless the president tries to make a video of the evidence of life and it is made up, it’s weird.”
A proof of life video? Like a hostage video? Can anyone imagine MSNBC talking about a Democrat like that? Previously, the calloused Maddow mocked the recovering Trump as “on drugs”:
He’s also taking a potent steroid that has turned anyone into an armchair pharmacist wondering if that steroid is possibly the reason he spent all night and day, say, tweeting in all caps about how his political Enemies should and why not be arrested. t and why has she not been arrested yet? Is that the president or is the drug talking? Is it strange that the president is now on drugs? Is it okay?
In the same hour, co-host Joy Reid hyperbolically suggested that the Oval Office wouldn’t be safe if Biden won:
REID: You turned the Oval Office into a hot box with coronavirus. That I thought out loud today Is it safe for Joe Biden if he wins the White House to move to that Oval Office the next day?
WALLACE: You leave the windows open for a few days between …
REID: I would be a little scared if I were Joe Biden to go in there.
The next day? Election day is November 3rd. A new president will not be inaugurated until January 20th. Isn’t Reid aware of this?

MADDOW: Phil, let me just ask about this video we saw from the President tonight. I’m not someone who always necessarily understands the calling of the president. I’ll get into that in a moment. There are a number of things that were just disturbingly troubling about this video of the President, including how he looked. That’s not the most important thing, unless the president tries to make a video of the evidence of life and it is made up, it’s weird. It looks like a British pantomime. The video – the president said it was a gift from God that he was infected. He claimed to have discovered a cure and he would bring it to everyone. Subjectively, I felt that this was bad advice. This made the President seem a little crazy, crazier than usual.
The reason I bring this up, and tell you my perception of it, is because I wonder why the number of White House senior staff who tested positive is based on the number of White House senior staff who are from home working out this is possible is the kind of thing that might have been goalkeepers before that someone would have stopped him but now he does what he wants and no one is there to tell him no
