Amazon will announce its acquisition of Paramount Pictures’ sequel Eddie Murphy, Coming 2 America, on March 5, 2021. The film was originally slated to hit theaters on December 18, before Paramount unloaded the feature to Amazon for $ 125 million under a global rights deal we told you first.
It is another global picture start for Amazon on Prime Video under studio boss Jennifer Salke after the Borat Subsequent Movie Film, which was seen by “tens of millions of viewers” per streamer on the first weekend. Coming 2 America will be available in over 240 countries and territories.
The newly crowned King Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his confidante Semmi (Arsenio Hall) are in the lush and regal land of Zamunda, embarking on an entirely new, fun adventure as they cross the globe from their great African nation to the borough traversing Queens, New York – where it all began. Original Coming to America cast favorites return, including King Jaffe Joffer (James Earl Jones), Queen Lisa (Shari Headley), Cleo McDowell (John Amos), Maurice (Louie Anderson) and the colorful hair salon crew. Part 2 also stars Wesley Snipes, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, Jermaine Fowler, Bella Murphy, Rotimi, KiKi Layne, Nomzamo Mbatha and Teyana Taylor.

Coming 2 America is directed by Craig Brewer of Paramount Pictures in association with New Republic Pictures and is produced by Eddie Murphy Productions and Misher Films. The screenplay was written by Kenya Barris, Barry W. Blaustein and David Sheffield. The story of Blaustein, David Sheffield and Justin Kanew is based on characters from Eddie Murphy. The producers are Misher and Murphy, EPs are Brian Oliver, Bradley Fischer, Valerii An, Barris, Charisse Hewitt-Webster, Michele Imperato Stabile and Andy Berman.
The first film, which opened in theaters in the summer of 1988 and grossed $ 288 million, has now been rated as Murphy’s fourth highest live-action film.
