AOC Lies! Ted Cruz ‘Virtually Had Me Murdered’ Whereas Twitter Yawns

Twitter censored 668 tweets from former President Donald Trump before banning his account, claiming his tweets were inaccurate and some were a “risk of violence”. But when Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) falsely accused a US Senator of attempted murder, Twitter did nothing at all.

“I am happy to be working with Republicans on this issue that we have in common, but you almost murdered me three weeks ago so you could expose this problem. I’m happy to work with just about every other GOP that isn’t trying to kill me, ”Ocasio-Cortez tweeted to Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) on January 28, 2021. Their lie related to the Capitol Riot on January 6th, when several people broke through the Capitol. This tweet received 462.7,000 likes and 85.6,000 retweets.

At the time of this publication, Twitter did not comment. However, Ocasio-Cortez’s lie was trending on Twitter. The trend began with the sentence, “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tells Ted Cruz,” You almost murdered me three weeks ago so you could expose this, “after tweeting in accordance with her about the need to implement Robinhood’s trade restrictions to investigate.”

Several Twitter users, including conservative podcast host Stephen L. Miller (@Redsteeze), did a fact check for the tweet on Birdwatch, Twitter’s new crowd-sourced fact-check platform. The new platform enables Twitter users to review tweets and provide “context” for content that is considered misinformation.

Three sources about the tweet in Birdwatch are currently considered helpful. One user wrote: “Ted Cruz did not attempt to murder Alexandria-Ocasio Cortez. This tweet is an exaggeration and not a statement of fact. Another wrote: “At no point did Ted Cruz attempt to murder anyone.” The third wrote: “Senator Cruz questioned the election results but did not attempt to murder anyone and did not support the Capitol uprising.”

Other Birdwatch users wrote sentiments below these tweets that echoed Ocasio-Cortez’s original statement. One said, “The Capitol rioters saw Ted Cruz as their leader and commented on the video during the incident that Cruz wants them to do this. The tie guy’s goal was to get the ties used on elected members of Congress like AOC. ”

Heartland Institute columnist and editor-in-chief Justin T. Haskins tweeted, “When did Ted Cruz try to kill @AOC? See @Twitter how damaging and harmful that tweet from @AOC was ????? It should be treated the same way @Twitter supposedly treats anyone else who says ‘dangerous’ things. ”

According to RollCall reporter Chris Cioffi, Cruz Ocasio-Cortez replied: “You know, there is a lot of partisan anger and anger on the democratic side. It is not healthy for our country, it certainly does not promote healing or unity, but everyone has to decide how to interact with others. “

Seth Dillon, founder of the conservative satirical site The Babylon Bee, explained how Twitter handled the lie: “By left-wing standards, it incites violence against him by making false accusations that anger and energize its followers. “
