Channel 5 Confirms Season 2 Renewal – .
ViacomCBS’s Channel 5 and PBS Masterpiece have confirmed that veterinary drama All Creatures Great And Small will return for a second six-part season.
. reported last month that the renovation was all but complete and Playground Entertainment was ready to begin filming season two in the Yorkshire Dales early next year. This is followed by the premiere of the first season, which with 5 million viewers becomes Channel 5’s top-rated show since February 2016.
With Nicholas Ralph and Samuel West, All Creatures Great And Small is a new version of the humorous adventures of a young country veterinarian by bestselling author James Herriot. The books were previously converted into a group of films and television series in the 1970s.
Ben Frow, ViacomCBS’s programming director in the UK, teased the restart for the first time last year when he said he wanted a second season after seeing just one episode of the first. PBS Masterpiece is back on board as a co-production partner, while Screen Yorkshire is also providing funding.
In addition, the distributor All3Media International has sold both seasons to the Chinese streamer Huanxi Media. This is the first advance booking for the second season. BritBox also recorded the show in Australia.
All Creatures Great And Small was commissioned by Seb Cardwell, Assistant Program Director of ViacomCBS Networks UK. Executive producers are Colin Callender and Melissa Gallant for Playground, Louise Pedersen for All3Media International, Caroline Cooper Charles for Screen Yorkshire, and Rebecca Eaton and Susanne Simpson for PBS Masterpiece. Ben Vanstone will remain lead writer and executive producer, while Brian Percival will return as lead director and executive producer. James Dean joins the production team as a producer.
