Column: New York Occasions Outsources Analysis to Media Issues

The libertine left and its publicists in the “objective media” have a fun way of writing about their lobbying campaigns against troubling traditions like the “Gender Binary”. So so:

1. Push the revolution out of the fringes by testing the supposedly outdated cultural boundaries – for example, including “trans women” in girls’ sport.

2. Define the conservative response as a “culture war” – as if you hadn’t started this fight.

A case in point was a March 30 article in the New York Times entitled “Transgender Girls in Sports Are New GOP Culture Wars.” Times reporter Jeremy W. Peters writes like a gay activist because he is one. In 2008, Out magazine praised Peters, then a “rising star” based in Albany for the Times, as one of the “Our Boys on the Bus” in the national media elite.

In the liberal media, gay reporters write about LGBT activists, black reporters write about blacks, Asians about Asians, and so on. Orthodox Christian reporters cover … wait, don’t be silly! There are no Orthodox Christian reporters at the New York Times!

Peters used the word “conservative” ten times and variants of “right” three more times. Conservatives were the ones who “curtail the rights of transgender people” as they are “on one of their last bases in the fight against the expansion of LGBTQ rights”. They are pushing for laws that “single out transgender people for exclusion and nurture ugly stereotypes”. Conservative culture “often reduces the nuanced problem of gender identity to a punch line about political correctness.”

We have been told that the right wing wants to “ban transgender girls and women from sports leagues” which is a word missing – bar transgender women from “women’s sports leagues”. Nobody says that a born athlete cannot compete in sports. But it would apparently “feed ugly stereotypes” if the trans women competed with other men.

The left-wing ACLU (touted twice) and the Public Religion Research Institute were cited without labels. A “left-wing” group appears once – in an amazing way.

Peters reported that for transgender athletes, this kerfuffle is “treated much more frequently – and often faced with high doses of sarcasm” in conservative media. And who did they hire to study the conservative media?

“According to a review of social media content conducted by the New York Times of Media Matters, a left-facing guard dog, Seven of the ten most popular stories about the proposed laws targeting transgender people so far this year come from Daily Wire, a website created by Mr. [Ben] Shapiro. Two others were from Fox News. In total, the articles have been read, shared, and commented on six million times, according to Media Matters. ”

Suddenly, the Times outsources its research on conservatives to a radical left organization – one of the most venomous character assassins in Cancel culture – and boasts about it. The Times is floating in its revenue, but somehow it needs help figuring out that “targeting transgender people” is a hot conservative topic.

On Twitter, Geoffrey Ingersoll from the Daily Caller hit the Peters article just right. It’s “crazy to make it like conservatives are just cynically using women to advance a malicious political agenda rather than trying to preserve and protect an otherwise marginalized group in sport.”

As much as the left wants to pretend that outrage over this continued “inclusion” is not real, Peters noted a lawsuit in Connecticut federal court by three runners who lost races against trans women. There is an ongoing debate here. It’s just that the Times is buying research from radicals who want to cancel a page.
