Fearing 2024 Run, MSNBC Pleads: Simply ‘Ignore’ Trump!

Does the left fear President Trump’s 2024? This is how it looks, measured against this morning’s AM Joy show on MSNBC, hosted by Maria Teresa Kumar as a guest. The show devoted a segment to the possibility of Trump in 2024. And in a preemptive strike on a possible run, the panel argued that the media shouldn’t cover Trump and that supporters shouldn’t contribute to him.

The segment began with a clip of Kamala Harris walking past the cemetery and responding to a reporter’s question if she thought Biden-Harris could defeat Trump if he ran again.

That spilled into the unspeakable Jennifer Rubin, the MSNBC staffer and Washington Post columnist, asking the media to ignore Trump. She scolded:

I think it’s a bit ridiculous. And It’s also a good test for the mediaHonestly. There is absolutely no greater story than Joe Biden’s inauguration and no one should be covering Trump. This is his pathetic vent – like a two year old jumping up and down: “Me, me, me!”

In reality, however, he will do all kinds of things and is no longer the center of our political life. He’s not the story. And I think Kamala Harris may have been amused that this is now the Republican problem. He’s the one who will now hang like a dark cloud over the would-be of 2024. So let her deal with it, and they should ignore him thoroughly and get on with the business of the government of the country.

Bloomberg’s Tim O’Brien warmly agreed. And in one particularly dire twist, O’Brien advised people not to donate to Trump, warning that if he was convicted of a crime he would not be allowed to flee and so the donors would throw their money away: “And they In reality, there are some real wild cards out there about his ability to run again in 2024. The most standout one to me is when the Manhattan District Attorney charges Donald Trump of a crime and Donald Trump is convicted, he will not be allowed to run again. ”

O’Brien also used unwanted humor, claiming the media usually tried to be “objective” and let readers decide. He pleaded with the media not to lapse into “bilateralism” when reporting on Trump. Take a rest, Tim: When it comes to Trump, there’s no chance the media will be “objective” or cover both sides equally!

Liberals who begged the media not to cover President Trump and supporters who should not contribute to him have been sponsored in part by Walmart, Proctor and Gamble [maker of Gain], NordicTrack and Dell.

REPORTER: President Trump has made motions to run again in 2024. Do you feel that you and President-elect Biden are ready to face him again?

KAMALA HARRIS [cackles]: You’re welcome.

MARIA TERESA KUMAR: Despite the opinion of the Vice President-elect, Donald Trump is reportedly planning to run for president again as early as 2024. And, according to the Daily Beast, he could even hold a Trump-style campaign rally during the President. choose Biden’s inauguration.

. . .

Jennifer, as a seasoned Republican, how do you see it when you have a side event during one of the most important transfers of power from one president to the next? What are you taking

JENNIFER RUBIN: I think it’s a bit ridiculous.

KUMAR: Tim, I want to talk about this whole thing so that we realize that one of the reasons he might say he’s running for president is more because of his own coffers. take that [reads WaPo headline]: “Trump asks for donations for electoral defense, which also fund his new leadership PAC.” According to the fine print, 60% of every donation goes to Save America and 40% to other committees, including national party accounts and the Trump campaign. You wrote “Trump Nation”. Is this just a way for him to fill his coffers?

TIM O’BRIEN: Of course, it is a way for him to keep filling his pockets, wallet, coffers, and vaults in the basement of Trump Tower. He’s always done things like that. I mean, remember – forgive me – this is a man who was essentially excommunicated from the philanthropic world for raiding a charity that they have been raising funds for for ages. And when they started this tale of election fraud, Eric Trump tweeted people to donate to Trump’s re-election fund.

I think there is no question that this is an opportunity to make money. He’ll keep the money that goes into something like that.

And the reality is There are some real wild cards about its ability to run again in 2024. The one that strikes me the most is If the Manhattan District Attorney accuses Donald Trump of a crime and Donald Trump is convicted, he is no longer allowed to run. Any Republican or Trump supporter looking to give Trump money should consider this that he has a long track record – fraudulent and bad with other people’s money, and that he broke the law and that could complicate things too.

. . .

RUBIN: Well, Far be it from me to quote or use anything Roger Stone said, but he suggested that Republicans boycott the Georgia elections. Well, if the Republicans want that Maybe we should boycott coverage of Donald Trump. Seriously.

A lot of news is being made and I think both The Biden camp and the media must somehow agree that we will return, as you said about politics, facts, normalcy.

. .

And I think it’s the media, I think I doIt is up to the entire political class to discipline itself and keep an eye on the ball.

. . .

KUMAR: Will the media be disciplined enough to do this and change the chapter that Jennifer encourages us to do when he’s out of office, or are we going to be too tempted to cover his gimmicks and what harm it can do do that when we do?

O’Brien: Well, I think that’s that – that’s the core question of how the media is obviously dealing with Trump. . . And I think the challenge for the media is now – and it has always been the challenge with Trump because politics is obviously a world where there is a lot of disagreement and spin. But Donald Trump is on a different scale. How does the media report on someone like this when he is a pathological liar and because he has the traction and imagination of much of the electoral base? The traditional approach of the media is to try to be objective, at least institutional mainstream mediaPresent facts to readers, present both sides of an issue to readers, and let readers decide in an ideal world.

I think Donald Trump is going beyond that approach. And I think the real challenge for the media is to limit its airtime when he is obviously lying or when he twists the public interest for his own benefit. And then to cover him in a way that doesn’t fall into “bilateralism”. and don’t fall into overly gullible about it – being overly gullible about who he is and what he has done. Because he’s a very dangerous force in American society right now.
