Hulu Lands Elisabeth Moss True Crime Drama Sequence ‘Sweet’ – .

EXCLUSIVE: Elisabeth Moss expands her relationship with Hulu with her latest drama project.

. assumes the streamer has landed Candy (w / t), who is by The Act writer and co-exec producer Robin Veith and the Exec produced by The Act co-creator Nick Antosca.

We hear that a writer room is being set up for the project by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, and 20th Television.

Set in Texas in 1980, the limited series of events is based on the true story of the killer Candy Montgomery and her victim Betty Gore. Moss will play Montgomery, who apparently had it all – a loving husband with a good job, a daughter and son, a lovely house in the brand new suburbs – why did she kill her church friend with an ax?

Moss will produce together with Lindsey McManus through the production company Love & Squalor and Antosca and Alex Hedlund through the production company Eat The Cat. Jim Atkinson and John Bloom are consulting producers. Veith, who also wrote about Mad Men, wrote the pilot script. Michael Uppendhal, who directed episodes of Mad Men and Fargo, is directing.

It’s clear why Hulu was interested, as the project brings together talent from two of its biggest shows: The Handmaid’s Tale and The Act. The dystopian drama that stars Moss goes into season four in 2021, while Hulu revealed last year that The Act, starring Joey King and Patricia Arquette, had more new subscribers in its first month than any other Hulu Original won.

UCP, which has overall deals with Veith and Antosca, was the studio behind The Act and landed a series contract for The Girl From Plainville with Elle Fanning from the streamer.

When the project was bought in earlier this summer, Moss said she had wanted to play an “anti-heroine” for a while and was interested in reuniting with Veith, who she’d worked with on Mad Men.
