‘Inside The NBA’ Host Charles Barkley, Phil Mickelson Win ‘The Match’ – .

As good a basketball player as Charles Barkley was in his long NBA career, he never won a championship. So today’s win at The Match televised golf showdown was especially sweet.

Barkley and pro golfer Phil Mickelson were easy winners against opponent Stephen Curry of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors and retired Super Bowl quarterback Peyton Manning in the third replay of The Match on Friday in Arizona.

When Barkley entered the showdown, he was considered a longshot to stay ahead. Regardless of his basketball talents, he is widely known as a poor golfer, something that is often joked about on the TNT show. But Mickelson and Barkley easily won the Modified Alternative Shot Match Play exhibit 4 & 3 at Stone Canyon Golf Club in Oro Valley, Arizona.

All participants carried a microphone. After taking a 4-up lead through seven holes, Barkley sent a message asking the audience to prepare for reruns of the television crime drama Law & Order in “about five more holes.”

Mickelson-Barkley lost the next hole, and then NBA All-Star and Basketball Hall of Famer Barkley pushed his tee shot to ninth place. But the duo was 3-up on the turn, finishing the match with a birdie on the 15th hole, which they halved when Manning also emptied his birdie putt.

The event was closed to the public due to COVID-19 and served as a fundraiser for historically black colleges and universities.
