Leisure Business Staff Exempt From Newsom’s Keep-At-House Order – .

In the face of an unprecedented, rapid surge in COVID-19 cases across California, Governor Gavin Newsom announced a limited stay at home order on Thursday. The order requires that “generally non-essential work, movements, and gatherings cease between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. in counties on the Purple Plain”. That means basically every county in Southern California and 94% of the state’s population.

Governor Newsom’s office told . on Thursday that the order does not apply to entertainment industry workers who are on the essential worker list and are an exception to the rule.

The governor’s original stay-at-home order from March contains the following passage, which is still in force:

In accordance with this ordinance, the State Health Commissioner has designated the following list of workers with essential critical infrastructure to assist state, local, tribal, and industrial partners in protecting their communities while ensuring the continuity of public health functions and security are vital, as are economic and national security.

On this list of exceptions, under “Industrial, Commercial, Residential and Protective Facilities and Services”, the essential employee designation 15 reads “Employees who support the entertainment industry, studios and other related facilities, provided they follow Covid-19 guidance public health related to physical distancing. “

The guidelines state that this exception only applies when remote working is not possible, but often not for film and television productions.
