Macy’s Criticized After Calling Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Included A ‘Various Dance Group’ In A Now Deleted Tweet

Even though we’re in a pandemic, Macy’s annual Thanksgiving Day Parade was still going on. Instead of being live this year, the annual event was recorded and broadcast on Thanksgiving for families to enjoy at home.

However, Macy’s got a little heat on Twitter for one of their tweets made regarding one of the performances during the parade.

The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority performed during this year’s parade and while they were shouting out on Twitter, Macy’s referred to the international Historically Black Sorority as a “diverse dance group.” In a tweet that has now been deleted, Macy’s said, “What kind of noise is that, you ask? Why is it the diverse dance group Zeta Phi Beta Steppers? They performed a special routine and helped us celebrate this unprecedented year. “

Macy’s later corrected himself, saying in another tweet: “See who just whipped things up. We loved to have it @ZPHIBHQ– an international, historically black sisterhood – with us at the #MacysParade for its centenary. “

The Divine Nine comprise nine historically blatant sororities and brotherhoods, of which Zeta Phi Beta is one.

Zeta Phi Beta’s Centennial Steppers took part in the parade as the organization celebrated 100 years of “Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood and Finer Femininity”.

Zeta Phi Beta celebrated the performance and said: “Congratulations once again to our Centennial Steppers who performed in the Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Parade this year! They all were #Finer and represented Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, well received! ”
