‘SNL’ Host John Mulaney Pays Tribute To Late Music Producer Hal Willner – .

For the traditional curtain at the end of today’s episode of NBC’s Saturday Night Live, host John Mulaney came out wearing a black t-shirt called HAL. It was a tribute to long-time SNL sketch music producer Hal Willner, who died in April of complications from COVID-19. He was 64 years old.

Former SNL writer Mulaney was among a number of past and current SNL members who starred in a video segment in honor of Willner that aired on the show days after his death. Mulaney spoke of “wonderful friend” Willner in the video, in which everyone shared touching memories of Willner’s decades on the show. It also included a musical tribute to the song Perfect Day by frequent Willner collaborator Lou Reed, as well as clips of Willner himself talking about his work.
