‘The View’ Co-Host Sunny Hostin Speaks Out In opposition to Barack Obama’s Criticism Of ‘Defund The Police’ Slogan

Barack Obama has received a lot of criticism in the last two days for making comments on the Defund the Police movement. Sunny Hostin, co-host of “The View,” was just one of many who spoke out against Obama’s comments.

Obama’s comments come from an interview with Peter Hamby, who hosts a political Snapchat show “Good Luck America”. Obama said that the use of the slogan “Defund the Police” could jeopardize the movement’s goals of meaningful police reform.

“I think you could use a snappy tagline like ‘Defund the Police,’ but you know that the moment you say it, you’ve lost a huge audience, which makes it a lot less likely that you actually do that desired changes get done, “said Obama in an interview.

While discussing the controversial interview today, Sunny preceded her testimony by saying she was a fan of Obama but admitted in this case that he was wrong.

“When you think about ‘Defund the Police’ it’s not a term that has been crowdsourced or tested in focus groups. You know, that’s a term born out of this overpolicing of the black and brown communities, a rally, ”Sunny told her co-hosts.

She continued, “We are constantly defusing school programs and they call it defusing school programs, but nobody seems to have a problem with it, but people suddenly have a problem defusing the police,” Sunny said. “I don’t think you should allow people to co-opt the movement and tell protesters what language to use … President Obama has been a community organizer and I really think he knows better.”

Obama’s comments coincide with other top Democrats who viewed the phrase as harmful to the Democratic Party.
