TO UPDATE: The deadline found out that Eddie Hassell was shot in the stomach outside his girlfriend’s apartment in Grand Prairie, Texas, around 1 a.m. on Sunday morning. The shooting is currently under investigation and the motive for the shooting is currently unclear and no suspect is in custody.
Hassell’s friend was in her apartment when it happened, but she didn’t see the attacker. His neighbors came to his aid and called emergency services. Hassell died in the hospital.
PREVIOUS: Actor Eddie Hassell, who appeared in the Oscar-nominated film The Kids Are All Right and NBC’s oceanic science fiction drama Surface, has died, . has confirmed. He was 30 years old.
According to TMZ, the actor was killed in what appeared to be carjacking on Sunday morning in Texas. No further details were given.
In The Kids Are All Right, he played Clay, Josh Hutcherson’s shrewd best friend, Laser. In Surface he played Phil Nance, best friend of Miles (Carter Jenkins).
In addition to his roles in The Children Are All Right and On The Surface, Hassell also had a recurring role in Marc Cherry’s lifelong dramedy Devious Maids. He played the character of Eddie Suarez, son of Ana Ortiz ‘Marisol. The series, which lasted four seasons, followed four Latina maids who worked in Beverly Hill. Devious Maids also played Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez and Judy Reyes.
He has had numerous TV credits in prominent shows including Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Southland, Til Death, Longmire and Bones. He also appeared in the films Jobs Warrior Road, Family Weekend and The Family Tree, among others.
