Drake Responds To Grammys Snubbing Controversy: ‘I Assume We Ought to Cease Permitting Ourselves To Be Shocked Each 12 months’

The music industry loved these Grammy nominations, which were announced on Tuesday. Everyone and their mother had something to say about the academy that berated artists this year, and although Drake himself was a candidate, he decided to include his two cents in the controversy.

To be honest, fans were only certain that The Weeknd’s “After Hours” would be nominated for Album of the Year, but no one expected a full shutdown.

Other popular artists who saw commercial and critical success but received little to no nominations were Lil Baby and Nicki Minaj. Not to mention, not a single woman was nominated for R&B album of the year.

Social media loved these snubs and Drake, who received two nominations for his single “Laugh Now, Cry Later”, broke his Grammys silence today.

Simply put, Drake says people should stop being surprised that the Grammys get it wrong.

“I think we should stop being shocked every year by the separation between high-impact music and these awards and just accept that what was once the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to current and future artists,” Wrote Drake in a statement on his Instagram story, “It’s like having a relative who is always expected to fix it, but he just can’t change his style.”

He went on to share his personal disappointment with the Weeknd’s nudge.

“I said the other day that @theweeknd was a ban on the album or song of the year, along with a myriad of other reasonable assumptions, and it just never works,” said Drake.

He also shared that he felt like Lil Baby, Pop Smoke, Party Next Door, and PopCaan were all being verbally abused and suggested that they create something of their own.

“This is a great time for someone to start something new that we can build over time and pass on to generations to come.”
