Governor Andrew Cuomo To Obtain The Worldwide Emmy Founders Award For His Each day COVID-19 Briefings

We all know that this year has been very difficult and unpredictable for many of us, especially when it came to the spread of COVID-19. As many of us around the world have learned, political leaders in various cities have kept residents updated as everyone has done their part to smooth the curve.

One person recognized for his daily press conferences on COVID-19 is New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

According to CBS News, the International Academy of Arts and Sciences of Television announced on Friday that Cuomo will receive the International Emmy Founders Award for his daily television reviews on the pandemic.

Bruce Paisner, President and CEO of the International Academy, said, “The Governor’s 111 daily briefings worked so well because he was effectively creating television shows with characters, storylines, and success and failure stories. People around the world tuned in to find out what was going on, and New York became a symbol of the determination to fight back. “

Cuomo finished his briefings on June 19 and, according to the academy, drew a total of 59 million viewers.

The International Emmy Founders Award is given to those who “have crossed cultural boundaries to touch our common humanity”.

Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg are among the names of previous recipients.

Earlier this month, Cuomo issued a new curfew on New York as cases continue to surge. At one point during the pandemic, New York was known as one of the epicentres but has been working towards fewer hospitalizations.
