Jermey Irons will join the A-list cast of MGM’s Gucci film directed by Ridley Scott. Lady Gaga plays Patrizia Reggiani, the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci, who was tried and convicted in 1995 for orchestrating his murder on the steps of his office. She served 18 years in prison before she was released in 2016.
Irons joins a cast that includes Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Jack Huston and Reeve Carney.
It’s the first project Lady Gaga has committed to since her nomination for best actress in a breakout round with Bradley Cooper in A Star Is Born 2018. She won an Oscar for the song “Shallow,” one of several hits on the soundtrack. MGM secured the rights to the Gucci package with the plan to start production back in April after Scott finished filming The Last Duel, which will go back into production next week.

Scott’s partner Giannina Scott has long been enthusiastic about the cinematic prospects for a film about the turbulent fashion dynasty of the Gucci family and the murder of the grandson of the founder Guccio Gucci. Scott, the producer and producer best remembered when he played the wife of Maximus (Russell Crowe) in Scott-directed Gladiator, has produced a number of passionate projects with him, including the Will Smith star Concussion and the Liam Neeson star Mark Felt: The Man Who Torn the White House, both directed by Peter Landesman. She originally brought the Gucci project to Scott.
The two have been companions since they met in his 1996 film White Squall, and were married in 2015. She was also co-producer of Matchstick Men and producer at Tristan & Isolde.
Maurizio Gucci had two daughters with Reggiani, but he left them for another woman. She had a brain tumor removed and her children blamed him for her actions; The media took a darker point of view during a sensational affair, portraying her as a hot-blooded woman who was despised and called her “black widow”. She originally drew a 29 year sentence.
The Gucci murder story was written by Roberto Bentivegna and is based on Sara Gay Forden’s book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Tale of Murder, Madness, Glamor, and Greed. Scott Free Productions and Kevin Walsh are also producers of the film.
Irons was most recently featured on HBO’s Emmy-nominated blockbuster series Watchmen and is currently being produced in Netflix’s’ Munich ‘, an adaptation of Robert Harris’ acclaimed novel in which he plays British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlin.
It is reconfirmed by the CAA.
