Liberals and their media allies can’t wait for Big Tech to ban President Donald Trump forever.
CNN’s senior media reporter Oliver Darcy urged Big Tech to work overtime to block Trump’s speech in a CNN media newsletter, Fox News reported Nov. 30. “Almost every tweet from the president at this point is flagged as misinformation. Which got me thinking, ”Darcy explained. “Why doesn’t Twitter just take the step to mark its entire account as a known source for election disinfo? And why stop there? Why not flag accounts that repeatedly make claims that the platform needs to review? ”
He is not alone. In early November, former Reddit CEO Ellen K. Pao and Project Include founding partner Laura I. Gómez wrote an open letter to Twitter’s CEO, Jack Dorsey, demanding that Trump’s Twitter account be closed. In the letter, Dorsey was upset: “Donald Trump is attempting a coup. And he runs it on Twitter. “
The letter acknowledged that Twitter tried to undermine the president but didn’t go far enough:
“Yes, we know you tagged it, but tagging doesn’t help – it attracts more attention and engagement. A flagged tweet has almost half a million likes and retweets. How many millions of people saw and believed the tweet? “
The letter also went about how liberal surveillance groups like Common Cause and the Civil Rights Advocacy Committee sent Dorsey a similar call for action:
“We are writing to ask that you suspend his account in response to President Donald Trump’s repeated violations of Twitter’s Civic Integrity Policy – an action Twitter has taken in the past against other verified users, which has also been repeated against Violated your guidelines. “
The House Democrats have called for Trump to be suspended as well.
Representative David Cicilline (D-RI) said Trump’s Twitter account “publishes lies and misinformation in a stunning clip” and called Trump’s online presence a “threat to our democracy” that “should be suspended until all votes are counted are”.
Representative Gerry Connolly (D-VA) had similar demands:
“Block his account, @Twitter. This is pure disinformation. Valid votes are counted.
“This is America, not Russia.”
Even before the election, the big tech elites demanded that the president be “silenced”.
Peter D. Greenberger, who previously held positions in revenue and partnership with both Google and Twitter, wrote in a column that “Social media platforms should silence the president until the election winner is clear.” the Washington Post October 19 column read, “I ran political ads on Twitter. It’s time for platforms to mute Trump, ”ridiculed Big Tech’s claim of political neutrality. Greenberger made the disturbing suggestion: “Even if there is a risk that the principle of freedom of speech will be violated … Twitter and Facebook must silence Trump shortly before the election.”
