TSR Health: Roommate A few days ago, the FDA approved the first-ever COVID-19 vaccine for nationwide distribution, and the administration quickly did so for another company. Moderna’s coronavirus vaccine has also been approved for emergency use, according to CNBC reports.
The approval of Moderna’s vaccine allows the federal government to distribute approximately 5.9 million doses of the vaccine to 64 states, territories and major cities across the country next week. Dr. Anthony Fauci said the vaccine should be given as early as Monday.
“We’ll probably see gunshots in the arm early next week, I hope Monday or Tuesday,” he said on the Today show on Friday morning.
The United States is also planning to ship an additional 2 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine, after having cleared 2.9 million doses for shipping. From now on, the vaccines require two doses three to four weeks apart.
“With the availability of two vaccines to prevent COVID-19, the FDA has taken another crucial step in the fight against this global pandemic, which causes large numbers of hospitalizations and deaths in the US every day,” said FDA Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn said in a statement.
The Moderna vaccine is now approved for adults over the age of 18. Fatigue, headache, and muscle pain are the most common side effects. There are also some rare symptoms such as persistent nausea or vomiting and facial swelling that can occur as a result of the gunshots, according to the FDA.
As we previously reported, the first doses of the vaccine have already been given to people across the country, and President-elect Joe Biden is even preparing to give it publicly.
